Sofia Kounia

Ms. Kounia joined IRI’s Piraeus office in November 1997 as an Office Administrator. She soon transferred to the Seafarers Documentation department and then in 2000 transferred to the Vessel Registration department as Vessel Registration Administrator. In 2010 she was promoted to Vessel Registration Manager overseeing a team of five in the Piraeus office. In April 2021 she was promoted to Vice President, Vessel Registration and Documentation where together with Emily Richmond, who is based out of the London office, they oversee worldwide vessel registration transactions including the initial vetting of vessels entering the registry and vessel documentation transactions, including instrument recordings and certificate issuance. She holds a diploma in Software Engineering Technical Professional and IT Specialist with Multimedia from the Institute of Vocational Training of Athens. Ms. Kounia is a member of WISTA Hellas.
